Envision, a white 110-foot Broward motor yacht, seen from the water

A guide to charter pricing

What a private yacht
charter costs.

How charters are priced in Florida, what changes the price, and exactly what a charter aboard Envision costs.

Two ways charters are priced

Boat trips in Florida are sold in two ways. Shared trips sell seats: you buy a place aboard and share the boat with whoever else bought one, on the operator's schedule. Private charters are priced for the whole vessel for a block of time, usually by the hour or the half day, and only your group is aboard.

That difference matters when you compare prices. A shared trip looks cheaper for one person; a private charter is one price for the group, so it is the same whether two people come or the boat is full. Envision is a private charter: one price for the whole 110-foot yacht and up to 13 guests.

What changes the price of a charter

The boat. Size, age and what is aboard drive most of the cost. A small boat for six is a very different thing from a yacht with a salon, a dining room and a flybridge.

The length. Most charters are priced by the hour, with a minimum. Longer charters cost more in total but leave time for a meal and a slower route.

The crew. A bareboat rental puts you at the helm; a crewed charter includes a licensed captain and usually a deckhand or more. Ask whether the crew is in the price.

The date. Some operators charge more on holidays and event weekends, and those dates are the first to fill everywhere. Ask whether the price changes for your date.

What is included.Fuel, food, drinks, towels and the crew's gratuity are handled differently from boat to boat. Two prices that look the same can cover very different things.

Questions to ask before you book any charter

  • Is the boat private to our group, or are other guests aboard?
  • How many guests can legally come aboard? Every passenger vessel has a limit.
  • Are the captain, crew and fuel included in the price?
  • Is gratuity included, or expected on top?
  • Can we bring our own food and drinks, including alcohol?
  • How much is the deposit, and when is the balance due?
  • What is the cancellation policy, and what happens if the weather turns?
  • Where do we board, and is there parking?

Questions about cost

Is a yacht charter priced for the group or for each guest?
It depends on the boat. Shared trips sell seats. A private charter is priced for the whole vessel, so the cost is the same whether two people come or the boat is full. Envision is priced for the whole yacht.
Does the price include the captain and crew?
On a crewed charter it should, but ask. Aboard Envision the captain and crew are included, and so is fuel for the route. The crew's gratuity is not included and is at your discretion.
Are food and drinks included?
Policies vary. Envision does not sell alcohol and does not include food: you bring your own, or bring a caterer, and a chef-prepared meal can be arranged in advance at a separate cost.
How much is the deposit?
Aboard Envision, half of the charter reserves your date and the balance is due 48 hours before you board. Bookings made within seven days of the date are paid in full.
What happens if we cancel?
Aboard Envision: 14 or more days before, a full refund; 7 to 14 days before, a 50% refund; within 7 days, no refund. The full terms are on the terms page.
